What Makes a Great Yoga Retreat
Do you have an idea of what makes a great yoga retreat? Have you been on one and have memories of just how great it was? If I asked you what it was that made it so special, you might answer: the food, location, day trips, massages, etc. If you have not been on a retreat, you might have similar answers.
I wonder how it would feel for you if I suggested that what makes a yoga retreat great is the community that is created during the short time we are together. It is not the food, location, touristy things, massages, etc.—those are important but not critical.
I have read and heard that it is the teachers who make a retreat great. How do you rate what a good yoga teacher is? This may sound odd, but can I suggest that it is how well the teacher likes him/herself that makes a great teacher?
I realize now that I have been disrespectful to those who have complimented me in the past. Someone might say it was a great yoga class, or that I did something well, and I haven’t stopped to say thank you—that’s disrespectful. These days, I pause and say thank you.
Rainer, who owned the Bali Mandala resort (he has passed away since we were there), once said to me that I had a gift for creating community, for bringing people together. ‘Thank you, Rainer,’ for sharing that with me.

BeMeYogaRetreats are for you if you are courageous enough to take the first step. We will look after you, we give you our word.
This is us at the Byron Bay 2024, we are all shapes, sizes, ages; we have different levels of flexibility, strength. We enjoyed a beer, wine and great food, we had so much fun. What brought us together was destiny, right place, right time.

Connection
BeMeYogaRetreats are about connection
Through our breath we connect. BeMeYogaRetreats provide the space, the time, the environment where you can connect, or reconnect, to you own true self. Maybe that doesn’t resonate with you. Maybe you have lost yourself, no idea who your true self is anymore.
Would you like to try…. ?
Meditation
BeMeYogaRetreats provide space for you to Meditate. We will provide guidance if you don’t have your own practice.
Meditation is found in the simple things, not necessarily sitting, eyes closed; being present is a start.
Meditation is simple, but it’s not easy. It requires practice and discipline. Can you picture yourself waking up one morning and knowing you will be a great cook when you haven’t been. For me, David, there is no goal to our meditation practice, we meditate because we are called too. Meditation has been called the ‘Pearl of Great Price’ Father Laurence Freeman.
We can help with the basics, the rest is up to you…
